Daara J Family feat. Faada Freddy & Ndongo D

Senegal

Born in Dakar in the 1990s, Daara J Family have spent more than two decades building bridges between Senegalese culture and the world. Led by childhood friends Faada Freddy and Ndongo D, the group blends the centuries-old traditions of Senegalese griots with hip-hop, funk, soul, reggae and rock. Their lyrics in Wolof, English and French address universal themes including education, ecology, child protection, freedom and social responsibility. With more than 1,500 concerts worldwide, Daara J Family have opened for Wyclef Jean, Public Enemy and Mos Def in the United States, performed alongside Peter Gabriel at WOMAD, joined Africa Express with Damon Albarn in London and Lagos, and appeared at major festivals including Les Trans Musicales de Rennes and Solidays. Their album “Boomerang” earned the Best African Artist award at the 2003 BBC Radio 3 Awards for World Music. Following the 2020 album “Yaamatele”, featuring Gaël Faye, Daara J Family are entering a new creative chapter with a project centred on TERAANGA - the Senegalese tradition of hospitality and the art of welcoming others. Blending traditional music, folklore and contemporary rap, the project remains deeply rooted in Senegal while looking outward to the world. The singles “Cosaan” (May 2025) and “Jàmmarloo” (March 2026) introduce this new repertoire. Faada Freddy and Ndongo D are now returning to the road with a renewed live show, ready to reconnect with audiences and stages worldwide.
